After making a series of promos for broadcast channels, Richard Cousins’ award-winning career as a commercial and television promotions director was launched. Over the years, Richard has honed his own brand of visual storytelling, and now prides himself on his ability to craft a distinct sense of mood and place for each new project, no matter what the subject.
His passion for cinematography combined with his visual inventiveness has seen him win many awards, 5 for 'Best Director'. These awards include the UNDPI (United Nations) Special Gong award (2014), the New York Festival Advertising Awards (2013, 2012 & 2007), IVCA Awards (2013, 2012 & 2005), the Shark Advertising Awards (2007 & 2005), the Summit Creative Awards (2006). Richard also won the prestigious John Brabourne New Talent Award (2011) and Best Director at the San Francisco Film Festival (2011) for his first short film Trailing Dirt.
Richard has recently completed his second short film 'Waiting for Dawn'' shot on 35mm. It is a powerful and moving WW1 drama, winner of the British Short Screen Play Competition. The film has had great success on the festival circuit. Awards include - Best International Film (Catalina Film Festival 2015), Best Short Film ( Paragon Film Festival 2015), Best Narrative Film (California Film Festival 2015), Best International Film, Best Narrative Film and Best Director (Los Angeles Movie Awards 2016).
Richard's is now about to embark on his debut feature film. 'Devil in the Fog' is a dramatic and eerie story of lost identity and family secrets based on the childrens book by Leon Garfield.
